Why should I study Art and Design?

The BTEC Art and Design Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course is ideal for students who want to pursue Art and Design as a career.

The department favours this qualification because of its vocational context and relevance to the world of work. It will enable students to directly access degree courses in their chosen career path.

The academy for the last 25 years have continuously had a 100% pass rate. For the last 10 years our students gained some of the top results in Art and Design in the country. Alongside developing skills on the course students in the academy can have access to a personal Arts advisor and are encouraged to work on projects within the community and trust to enhance their personal and professional portfolio.

What skills will I gain ?

There are three tutors delivering a variety of specialist areas at this level; Drawing, Painting, 2D/3D Design, Textiles, Ceramics/Glass, Photography, Graphics and Printmaking.

Students will develop key skills such as personal and independent thinking, communication and problem solving are an integral part of the course; skills most employers want from young people.

On a regular basis students will work with practicing artists and attend exhibition and gallery visits to support them with the development of their ideas. Assignments are client based, requiring specific deadlines, costings and actual work related experience.
