To work individually and collaboratively while also having an open-minded approach toward many forms of expression. Also to develop in students an inquisitive mind that can observe, recognize and understand what it sees by developing and forming expressive visual statements that have a direct relationship to students personal experience.
The BTEC Art and Design Level 3 National Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels. The course is ideal for students who want to pursue Art and Design as a career.
The department favours this qualification because of its vocational context and relevance to the world of work. Students will have the opportunity of developing personal and independent ideas within each of the specialist areas we offer. It will enable students to directly access degree courses in their chosen career path.
The academy for the last 25 years have continuously had a 100% pass rate. For the last 10 years our students gained some of the top results in Art and Design in the country. Alongside developing skills on the course students in the academy can have access to a personal Arts advisor and are encouraged to work on projects within the community and trust to enhance their personal and professional portfolio.
There are three tutors delivering a variety of specialist areas at this level; Drawing, Painting, 2D/3D Design, Textiles, Ceramics/Glass, Photography, Graphics and Printmaking.
Students will develop key skills such as personal and independent thinking, communication and problem solving are an integral part of the course; skills most employers want from young people.
On a regular basis students will work with practicing artists and attend exhibition and gallery visits to support them with the development of their ideas. Assignments are client based, requiring specific deadlines, costings and actual work related experience.
The department has excellent liaisons with local colleges and universities and have built up a good network nationally with the best universities; helping our students to get placed directly on degree courses if they so wish.
Ex pupils are currently enjoying a variety of degree courses and employment fields such as Architecture, Illustration, Teaching, Automobile Design, Design, Film, Theatre Set Design, Visual Communication, Gift Card Design, Photography, Interior Design, Ceramics, Fashion Design/Retail, Product and Furniture Design, the visual arts have almost doubled in the last ten years and contributes £3.6bn to the UK’s economy.
