Media Studies A Level

Why should I study Media Studies?

Media Studies is the key to understanding the complex world of modern communications. The last ten years have seen the media infiltrate every aspect of our lives. This subject peels back the facade that has been constructed to keep you from understanding the true socio-economic mechanics that rule our lives.

What skills will I gain?

Skills of analysis included evaluation of printed and audio-visual material, production skills including video-editing, still image editing and the manipulation of digital sound. We provide the opportunity to create detailed presentations and deliver material to the class which is the perfect preparation for university.

What career paths is Media Studies suitable for?

We currently have former students working in production at ITV, as a producer for BBC Radio, designing sets for touring arena rock shows and running their own video-game production company with titles out next year. If that doesn’t seem your area then the transferable skills of analysis, argument and presentation fit well in almost any field of employment.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above; including English and/or maths.
  • National data suggests successful students will have achieved an average points score of 4.0 or more.
