Post-16 Study Options

There are lots of routes available to get you to where you want to be. At Aspire Sixth we offer a range of options that enable you to find the right course for you.

Each type of course offers something different to the student. It is important that these differences are taken into consideration when making option choices.

A Level Courses

These courses are studied over two years and examined at the end of Year 13. The structure of A Level courses differs per subject and full details of the content can be found in our course listings. Students achieving a strong set of GCSE results will be expected to take three Advanced Level courses. Certain subjects have additional minimum grade requirements at GCSE.

BTECs and CTECs

These courses are also studied over two years and there are a range of subjects on offer. National Certificates are equivalent to one A Level, National Diplomas are equivalent to two A Levels or you may study a National Extended Diploma which is equivalent to three A Levels.

Consisting mostly of coursework assignments, a BTEC or CTEC course would suit you if you prefer a different assessment process to examinations. Like all Level 3 courses, good independent study skills are vital. Entry to these subjects are dependent on a good set of GCSE results.
